Summer camp can be a very fun experience for children of all ages. You meet new friends and learn a lot of exciting things. Depending on what kind of camp you attended you might have had a chance to go horseback riding or maybe even water skiing. However, as you age there are lots of things that you forget about and what sticks with you the most might just surprise you.
Check out these 10 Things You Will Only Understand If You Went To Summer Camp
10. Movie night was always the best and movie night now as an adult might not be near as fun
Movie night was always the best at summer camp! You might get asked out by the guy of your dreams or it might turn into a total night of fun with your friends. I enjoyed the popcorn and sometimes the random food fights that would happen with the popcorn at the end of the movie. Surely, my camp wasn’t the only one that had popcorn fights on movie night. Being an adult now, I really miss those popcorn fights!
9. Everyone seemed to have a birthday during camp but you!
Birthday summer camps are fun and I am lucky my birthday is in July. However, my friend that went to camp with me complained about how it was so unfair that her birthday was not in the summer. Other kids might also even notice that your birthday was not during the summer and make fun of you for it. The camp went all out with a nice birthday cake and gifts. One year I missed summer camp and the party at home for my birthday was just not the same.
8. Getting mail at camp was awesome
Going to the mail box these days might not be near as special as it was when you received mail at summer camp. I can remember reading the letters from home several times. You then not only read them several times to yourself but end up reading them to your friends. I don’t know about you all but at camp we all loved reading our letters from home to each other.
7. It’s a bird, it’s a plane…it’s superman..nooo that’s not either, it’s a lightening bug!
Everyone is around the camp fire sharing stories. However, you don’t even care about the stories because all around you there are lightening bugs. You never remembered the stories shared because of those bugs flying around. Maybe now you live in a city and might even find yourself missing those lightening bugs. It might just be time for you to go camping.
6. Watch out for that tree! No, more like watch out for that poison ivy!
Each year it seemed as if someone always ended up getting poison ivy. You would watch out for it but then you end up forgetting about it because of all of the fun you had. As an adult you might even still find yourself paranoid of plants and afraid of getting poison ivy because of getting it at camp. Thankfully, I never had poison ivy but some friends got it at camp.
5. You still wear your friendship bracelet
The friendship bracelet might be worn and very old but you don’t plan on replacing it anytime soon. You might even have lost contact with some of the ones who might have given you friendship bracelets. However, you can’t find yourself smiling each time you look at your friendship bracelets. Everyone around you might wonder why you still keep them all of the years later. It’s alright. They don’t have to understand as to why.
4. You still find yourself singing those campfire songs
I can remember not liking some of those campfire songs but then after you hear them for awhile they get stuck in your head. Years later you find yourself still singing them. One of the songs that sticks with me is this is the song that never ends and 99 bottles on the wall. I’m sure you’ll find yourself remembering a few songs and singing them again.
3. You have lots of connections with people because of your camp experience
Isn’t it amazing that one of the things you don’t think about as a child but appreciate when you’re an adult is all of the connections you have with other people now because of camp? You might even know a movie star or a famous writer because of going to camp. You might not have ever known them if it wasn’t for that special camp experience.
2. Years later you still hear that dreaded wake up call
People might wonder why you never need that alarm to wake you up. What they don’t know is that you hear the wake up call in your mind each morning years later. Everyone dreads that wake up
call. Often times I found myself still rolling back over and covering my ears praying that I could sleep for just a few more minutes, which never happened.
1. You find yourself still dancing to the same dance routines you learned at camp
Despite all of the new songs and new routines out now you still find yourself doing the same dance routine that you learned at camp. You not only do the same dance routine that you learned at camp but you also even find yourself teaching your children the same routine.
Conclusion
Don’t be surprised that if you send your child to camp that they might remember some of the exact same things when they are adults just in a different way.
