Many of us are totally unaware of all animals that live on the earth. To be honest, our knowledge doesn’t go too far – from the great white shark to moles and other such animals, but not farther. But there are still countless species you didn’t even know that exist – and we aren’t referring only to primates. Some look so strange that you’d doubt they are actually real, and the Proboscis monkeys are just an example.
We will show you ten of weirdest animals that have ever existed. You’ll be thrilled to see that, while some have more than four legs, others have necks that are as long as giraffes’.

1. Promachoteuthis Sulcus

This deep sea squid has human teeth – and what can be more frightening than that? Besides that, it also has eight legs and two tentacles, which makes it even more terrifying. Unfortunately, though, there is only one specimen of this species, which was accidentally identified by a German research vessel at about 6000ft deep sea. Now promise that you’ll never go scuba diving so deep – unless you want nightmares.

2.  Pigbutt Worm

Be prepared to see something really unusual – a pigbutt worm. As its name suggests, this little creature looks like a pig’s backside to a degree, which can actually make it truly terrifying. This type of worm lives 3000ft deep in the sea, and it’s about the size of a marble. Pretty nasty if you ask us. What more could you possibly ask for?

3. Planthopper Nymph

Despite its extremely weird look, this particular insect looks quite beautiful. If you didn’t know, the tail is made from extruded wax, and it is meant to distract predators from possibly eating this so-called nymph. Moreover, the tail can be used to fan out to slow down the nymphs as they fall down. That’s what we call “ingenious,” but what do you think?

4. Saddleback Caterpillar

So many different textures, shapes and colors in a single creature – that’s the saddleback caterpillar. To be honest, you might be having a hard time identifying the head of this little thing. But though it’s so little, it can still defend itself with the venomous spikes it has, which will actually provoke serious irritations.

5. Roughback Batfish

If you look at this fish, you might say that it looks like it has been ripped apart. And inexplicably, this fish has very bright red lips. Known as Ogcocephalus parvus, these species live along the western coast of the Atlantic. Impressively, there are many such creatures there, so if you’re in search of memorable views, just go scuba diving in that area.

6. Hooded Seal

Hooded seals are definitely impressive animals, though they are also incredibly weird. Did you know that male hooded seals have an inflatable bladder on their heads? And as a matter of fact, they are actually using it to impress the ladies, or ward off a competitor. Although you will find it fascinating, it might look quite gross, and chances are that you will have nightmares after seeking this seal.

7. Christmastree Worm

Worms are generally disgusting, but they just don’t compare to christmastree ones – and here’s the evidence. On the contrary of what you might be thinking, these worms live on tropical coral reefs, and they have two fir tree-like protrusions that make it look too weird to be true.

8. Mantis Shrimp

One of the most fascinating things about mantis shrimps relates to their twelve color receptors they have in their eyes, which are 8 more 9 more than our three. Furthermore, these creatures can punch with an acceleration of 80kph, and they have googly eyes that make them look beyond anything you’ve ever seen.

9. Narwhal

They look just like unicorns, but they live in the sea and they do really exist, unlike fairytale unicorns. Narwhals have nerves in their tusk to better sense the surrounding environment, so they are not actually going to attack you unless you happen to be scuba diving.

10. Cape Rain Frog

At the first glance, you might be unable to distinguish this frog from a rock. If you were to see this frog species in real life, you would definitely be tempted to say that rocks have arms… but they don’t. It’s just how this small cape rain frog looks like.
